Asynchronous Multicast - a superior alternative

ABSTRACT

The Verivue OneVantage CDN offers a unique and economically beneficial means to deploy HTTP-based linear television to IP connected devices. This approach, called asynchronous multicast, represents a superior alternative to classical multicast, while retaining similar (and sometimes better) network bandwidth efficiency as multicast. Instead of pushing content down a multicast tree to end-users, the content is pulled down the caching hierarchy, filling the caches along the way so that subsequent requests can be serviced from caches near the edge of the hierarchy rather than from the top.
